Composer, singer, percussionist and producer, Alessandra Leão was born in Pernambuco state and has released nine albums to date. Her productions include the CDs “Brinquedo de Tambor” (2006), “Dois Cordões” (2009) and the trilogy “Língua” - the latter of which was nominated for the Brazilian Music Prize in 2016. In 2019, she released the CD-book “Macumbas e Catimbós,” which was nominated for a Latin Grammy, followed by the album “ACESA” in 2021. She co-founded the band Comadre Florzinha.
In addition to her musical work, Alessandra also stands out as a curator and artistic director. She is the creator of the web series “ACESA”, which promotes meetings with masters and religious leaders from traditions such as Jurema, Umbanda and Candomblé. Directed alongside Vânia Medeiros, Caçapa and Luan Cardoso, the series brings to light the wealth of artistic production linked to northeastern traditions, highlighting artists, mestras and key masters of coco, ciranda and maracatu de baque solto.
She has musical partnerships with musicians such as Chico César, Juliano Holanda, Lívia Mattos, Siba, Caçapa, Zé Manoel, Isaar, Karina Buhr and Kiko Dinucci.
Alessandra also teaches ilu, a traditional drum in the Xangô and Jurema terreiros, teaching both beginners and professionals. She is currently touring with the show ACESA and the projects “Punhal de Prata” (Silver Dagger), with Rafa Barreto, and a collaborative show with Mestre Sapopemba, with whom she released the single “Exu Ajuô” (Exu Ajuô), which gives its name and points the way to the EP currently in production.
