Ginkgoa is the vibrant musical collaboration between New York singer Nicolle Rochelle and Parisian songwriter Antoine Chatenet. With influences spanning from French chanson legends like Edith Piaf and Rita Mitsouko to the sounds of Erykah Badu, Pink Martini, and Caro Emerald, the group creates a unique fusion of eras, languages, and genres, transforming traditional French chanson into a colorful and dynamic kaleidoscope of sound.
The band first gained widespread recognition in 2011 when they were awarded the "Coup de Cœur" at the prestigious Francofolies festival. Known for their electrifying performances, Ginkgoa turns every venue into an exuberant, high-energy cabaret. Currently, they are putting the finishing touches on their debut album, set for release in the autumn of 2014.
The story of Ginkgoa began in 2010, when Nicolle, who had been touring Europe for four years, discovered Antoine’s music online. Instantly captivated by his distinctive sound, she felt a deep connection to his style. That very evening, as fate would have it, the two met by chance in a Parisian jazz club. From that serendipitous encounter, Ginkgoa was born—a musical partnership that transcends geography and cultural boundaries.
Together, Nicolle and Antoine bring to life a sound that is both timeless and modern, blending the soulful energy of New York with the chic, eclectic vibe of Paris.
