Part of a new generation of Latinx indie artists, poolfire grew up in the suburbs of Massachusetts near Boston. Growing up, he was exposed to two different worlds of music: the Latin culture of his father’s family in Guatemala, and the world of rock and roll in the States. From an early age, he would buy burned CDs on the street with his dad. “There were these mixtapes they called “La Bomba”. “I was really into those, it would be like the 15 hottest reggaeton tracks at the time and some other stuff.”
Quickly, curiosity turned into obsession, and poolfire began saving all his money to build a home studio. “I’ve had the same mic since I was like, 14. There’s a ton of sentimental value in using the same tools that helped you fall in love with music in the first place.” With these tools, he embarked on his music career.
