Tabu Ley Rochereau, born Tabu Ley, is one of Africa's most influential vocalists and prolific songwriters, having penned over two thousand songs since his 1954 debut with Joseph "Grand Kalle" Kabasele's African Jazz. In 1970, he formed Orchestre Afrisa International, pivotal in transitioning from Congolese, Cuban, and Caribbean rumba to soukous.

His music, described by Wired World.3 as a blend of Zairean folk, R&B, Latin syncopation, and digital elements, remains globally popular. Honored as a "Knight" by Senegal and named Officer of the National Order by Chad, Rochereau initially gained fame after winning a Kinshasa singing contest. He co-founded African Fiesta with Dr. Nico in 1963, later forming African Fiesta National, which became one of Africa's most successful bands.
